Welcome New Applicants
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for considering the USC/Los Angeles General Medical Center Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program for your training. We are excited to share with you the many facets of this program that make it such an excellent environment for future Neonatologists.
Fellows in our program have the opportunity to experience training across multiple hospital settings. Our program has 4 training sites: Los Angeles General Medical Center, Children’s Hospital LA, Memorial Care Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach and Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s Hospital. Each site provides you with a distinctive perspective, giving you indispensable opportunities to care for a diverse patient population with a multiplicity of complex and challenging diseases. The Neonatal departments at these hospitals are staffed by outstanding neonatologist. By working with these neonatologists, fellows are trained to be clinically versatile and well equipped to pursue a career in private practice or a clinically rigorous academic practice.
One of the highlights of our fellowship program is the dual focus on academics and clinical skills. We offer weekly didactic sessions that include discussions on journal articles, case studies, and preparation for both written and oral boards. In addition to our structured didactic and lecture sessions, our attendings are highly committed to teaching within the NICU and take a special interest in fellows’ education. As a fellow in our program, you will experience our quality improvement, research and scientific literacy curricula, which results in better quality of care for our patients while giving you opportunities to present research projects or case reports at national conferences and publish your work in peer-reviewed journals. We promote diversity, equity and inclusion through our innovative and learner-centered curriculum and health equity initiatives.
While approximately half of our fellows pursue clinical practice, we also support our fellows exploring other areas of interest. Our fellows have earned academic positions at top hospitals across the United States, demonstrating the exceptional training provided by our program.
Promoting a training environment that is focused on being supportive, inclusive, and friendly is a top priority. We are proud to have diverse faculty members bringing unique perspectives to the program. Our faculty members conduct research, secure significant grants and maintain respectable publication records — and they are serious about helping you succeed. As a result, our fellows have received accolades for oral and poster presentations of research and scholarly activities. In our program, we have a close-knit group of fellows who support each other and quickly become close friends. The camaraderie among fellows is one of our true strengths.
All of the hospitals are located within 10 to 15 miles radius. Outdoor activities are never in short supply, nearby hiking trails and bike paths offer an outdoor escape. The mountains and beaches of LA are easily accessible. When it comes to food the sky’s the limit for variety of restaurants.
In our program, our fellows’ voices truly matter. We believe in shared governance and ensuring our fellows are integrally involved in all programmatic initiatives and changes. This is accomplished through our chief fellows, monthly GME meetings and internal programmatic surveys.
We invite you to join our team on this rewarding educational journey. We look forward to working with you. We hope that you will find our program to be an exceptional training environment for your career in neonatology.
